Olympic Plans For Battle

The proceedings will start with an exciting Festival of Sport masterminded by Claverham Community College which will be in June 2012 to slot into the school timetable. This will include traditional Olympic sports and opportunities to have a taster at some sports which are not normally available. Beach Volleyball in front of the Abbey is a popular suggestion although the practicalities of this still have to be assessed. Following on from that will be the community and cultural events some of which may coincide with the start of the Games themselves.

It is hoped that local organisations will use the theme of the Olympic Games for their events during that year. The Partnership will act as the Steering Group and will coordinate everything that is happening, keeping members informed about what is going on.

This will be a major undertaking and the Battle Partnership will be looking for volunteers not only to put on events but to help with the overall organisation. It is planned to invite local organisations and clubs to an information evening on March 18th when a presentation will be made and the plans discussed in greater detail and a list of volunteers will be started.  The meeting will be held in the Sheppard Rooms at Battle Memorial Hall.
