Battle Scarecrow Festival Tops 50 Entries In Its First Year!

Written by Admin Thursday, 25 June 2009 13:08

scarecrow festival logoAll completed scarecrows, fully dressed and labelled and ready for 'hanging out', were required to be supplied by Monday 22nd June.  The organisers, Beautiful Battle, have then dispersed the scarecrows to various display locations around the town.  You will be able to take a guided tour of the locations and the scarecrows through the gardens of Battle.  Leaflets will be available at strategic locations around the town including The Almonry and the Tourist Information centre at Battle Abbey.  Judging will take place in July and the winners will be announced at the Battle In Bloom Awards.  You, the public, will not only be able to enjoy the efforts put into dressing the scarecrow's, but you will also have the opportunity to vote for the best dressed scarecrow.

For those of you who live a little way away, we shall be providing the opportunity to see photos of the scarecrows to give you a taster of what to expect before you come to view in the flesh!

1st scarecrow outside the firestation in 2008This is the first scarecrow used by Beautiful Battle in 2008 which sparked the idea of the Scarecrow Festival.  If the response this year is anything to go by, this festival could continue to grow over the next few years.  This, of course, will also improve Battle's chances in the South East In Bloom competition, being able to demonstrate public involvement in the Town's floral displays.Planted baskets attached to the railings
